Investment Castings

In Precision Casting, a ceramic slurry is applied around a disposable mold, usually wax, and allowed to harden to make a disposable casting mold.

There are two different processes for creating investment casting molds. Ceramic shell process has become the dominant technique for engineering applications.

Advantages of investment casting:
- Complexity
- Freedom of alloy choice
- Precise and closed dimensional tolerances
- Availability of prototype and temporary molds
- Reliability
- Wide application area

Investment casting main application areas:
